Day 28 - Mallory Locke, Grade 5

Mallory Locke - 5th Grade
*THE GREAT SHEPHERD* Isaiah 40:11 “He tends his flock like a shepherd, he gathers his lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.”

This verse is foreshadowing the shepherd that would save us all, JESUS!

In the Bible, Jesus tells a parable of a shepherd boy who has 100 sheep. One day at dusk the shepherd leads his sheep to their pen for night. While the sheep walk in to the pen, he counts the sheep quietly. Soon he notices that he is missing one little lamb; he only has 99 sheep. The shepherd could have not thought about the sheep and just realized how tired he was and leave the sheep to die.

Instead, the loving shepherd risked everything to find just one lamb. When he finds that one lamb, he runs to him and gives the lamb a great big hug, and carries the lamb home close to his heart. (You could find this parable in Mathew 18:12-14.) In the same way, Jesus is our shepherd when we get lost in sin and darkness, when we cry out to Jesus to rescue us. Then when he finds us, he hugs us close to his heart and carries us home.

Dear God:

Thank you that you would love us so much, you would send us a Shepherd, to care for us and save us from sin. Thank you that you are always there for us no matter what.

-Amen
