Day 37 - Sydney Wirtzberger, Grade 9

Sydney Wirtzberger
9th Grade
Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. Mathew 7: 1-5

This verse says that we should not judge others or we ourselves will be judged by God. It also says that no one is without sin so how can we judge someone else’s sin. What this says to me is that we should not pass judgment on others because we may think we know their situation but we may not really know. This can be a real challenge and Satan is more than willing to interfere. You can be having a hard time with a friend and you talk about it with someone and before you know it everyone is passing judgment on what they think is going on when they really don’t know because they only have one side of the story. This is not a problem for just kids but for adults as well. We should all stop and think about this verse before we decide to judge a person or a situation.

Lord please help me remember that no one is without sin and therefore you have commanded us to not judge one another. Remind me that I may not really know what is going on in a situation and so I should not pass judgment. Help me to be mindful of my words and actions and let me never forget that I will be held accountable for not only my actions but judging others for theirs. Amen.

  1. Sydney,

What a great reminder of how God loves us and others! He loves us so much that he wants us to examine our own lives to be clean and ask forgiveness for sin. It is so easy to get focused on others in a negative way to make us feel better. God wants a relationship with us to love us, heal us, and forgive us so we can do that for others just as he asks. Thank you for sending that word out. Peace In Him- Patti
