Day 16 - Philip Mann, Grade 11

Philip Mann - 11th Grade

Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, serving as overseers – not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepard appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.                                                      1 Peter 5: 2-4 (NIV)

In these verses, Peter is writing to the elders and young people of the church, telling them that they must be “examples to the flock” through both leadership and service. He says that good leaders recognize their stewardship over God’s creation and his people; are eager to give to others, not looking for an earthly reward in return; and lead by example rather than coercion.  In the same way, we can strive to be godly leaders whether we are at school, at work, or at home, knowing that God will give us the grace to accomplish everything He has set out before us. If we are able to earnestly lead those around us, even in what may seem as the most insignificant of circumstances, God will glorify us and our eternal heavenly reward will exceed anything imaginable here on earth.

Dear God, I pray that You will guide me in my relationships, helping me to be the best leader I can with Your help  and to humble myself before You and those You have put in my life.  Amen.
